CIS home » Supplementary activities Sports Program Sports activities are an important component of the instructional system of the International College. They are suited to a young person's rhythm of life, and are adapted both to the students' individual needs and to the summer climate of Spain. - Swimming pool. The students go every day to the swimming pool, accompanied by trained supervisors from the College. The pool is located at the College campus, five minutes from the residence hall. It is an Olympic size pool, and enjoys a magnficient view of the city's cathedrals. - Team sports. Supervisors organize various games of soccer, basketball, and volleyball among the students at the College. Visits to the city The city of Salamanca is a genuine architectural museum, and has, moreover, an extraordinary overall unity thanks to the use of a local stone, known as Villamayor stone, that is quarried from an ancient bed of the river. Three trips take students to the following monuments: Plateresque and baroque: a visit to the University, a masterpiece of its style, rich in symbols, along with its famous façade, lecture halls, stairway, and Patio of the Schools. The cloisters of the Castillian Renaissance: a visit to the monument complex of Saint Stephen (the Dominican University with its church, exceptional altar piece, cloister, and part of the College campus) and to the convent of Las Dueñas, with its superb cloister, whose column capitals are a marvel of refined fantasy. The fine climate of Castille contributes to the success of our excursions. We travel at a sensible speed in buses provided specifically for the College, and at a moderate pace based on years of experience, without long delays or undue hurry. The personnel of the College is in charge of everything. The teachers and tour guides adapt the content of their presentations to the level of each group. Ávila, where Saint Theresa was born -- "the city of saints and songs" -- with its mystical and imposing aspect, its numerous churches, and its fortified walls. Segovia, a typical Castillian city, in the midst of an immense sea of wheatfields, with its impressive Alcázar, its gothic cathedral, and its Roman aqueduct. The hill towns in the south of the province, which, taken together, are regarded as a historic monument. --Unforgettable moments, historic surroundings, living memories of Europe's Roman past.... |
